Reason #7 diamonds are a girl's insurance. Ok, so now, there are insurance policies in paper, that promise to pay for her old age medical bills etc, but diamonds are a lot more beautiful. She holds and sees them. She wears them. Everyone admires them. They assure her that even when she gets old, when she loses her looks, even if her guy leaves her for a younger woman, the diamonds would still be with her. A collection of diamond jewelry assures her that in her old age, or she is in dire need for cash, a piece of diamond jewelry could be sold, or pawned for much needed cash. Diamonds are a girl's insurance.

Absolute rubbish:
 
1) marketing BS, other white gems or giltter will have the same effect
 
2) more marketing BS, the same logic can be applied to any other form of jewelry and most art.
 
3) how brain washed are you? Diamonds are NOT rare; all of the mines are just controlled by a cartel.
 
4) same could be said for any other expensive jewelry
 
5) This argument is flawed, a rational provider would invest the money rather that waist it on superficial things.
 
6) Only true as long as the Debeers cartel has control over the mines and man made flawless diamonds are scaled up. This could change at any time, unlike gold, diamonds are NOT rare and CAN BE synthesized which makes them a horrible insurance policy.
 
7) contradicts #3, and really isn't any different than point in # 6?
